About Me

Dr. LaCandian S. Spencer is native of Eudora, Arkansas. She graduated from Eudora High School as valedictorian. After high school, she attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Upon graduation, she was accepted into the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy, where she obtained a Doctorate of Pharmacy. She is currently employed as the Pharmacy Manager at a large retail chain. She also serves as a Consulting Pharmacist for a local assisted living facility. She is an inspiring and influential pharmacist who strives to enhance the quality of life of others.

During her early childhood years and throughout her educational journey, she developed a strong passion for serving the community and helping others. LaCandian is dedicated mentor who is passionate about empowering our youth, particularly young girls. She volunteers and orchestrates numerous community service events such as health fairs and wellness clinics. She hosted the 1st Flu Clinic held in Eudora.

In September 2016, LaCandian gave birth to her vision, A “Be-YOU-tiful” Tea, girls empowerment luncheon. The luncheon was designed to empower and educate young girls from different backgrounds to take charge of their future. Being from a small town with limited resources, she took the charge to inspire, celebrate, and motivate the girls with positive energy, a fun-filled environment, and resourceful information. The luncheon consisted of current topics and issues young girls face throughout their daily lives.

---“Of all my accomplishments, this is the greatest of them all.”

The following year, she hosted the 2nd luncheon themed “Pretty, Powerful, and Purposed,” which is now the name of her mentoring and empowerment program. LaCandian confirmed this will be an annual luncheon along with other activities and opportunities for young girls to partake in throughout the year. Spencer is a faithful volunteer and facilitator at the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is also a charter member of the Alumna Womens League, a collegiate mentoring program for young women at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. The mission is to help young ladies reach their greatest potential. Spencer has received several awards and honors for her contribution to our youth.

In 2017, she established a scholarship award to provide financial assistance to a deserving student pursuing a higher education.

LaCandian believes “If you want to change the world, invest in a girl.”

What I Do

Engagement

  Engagement:

LaCandian has proven herself to be an asset to her community through her passion, leadership, and positive influence. She is fervent in her efforts to serve children, particularly young girls, as well as promoting the health and wellness of others. • Health Fairs and Wellness Clinics

  • Speaking Engagements

Empowerment

  Empowerment:

Over the past 25 years the landscape of girlhood has changed dramatically. The advent of social media alone has altered the way people, more importantly, girls both see themselves and interact with the world. Facing daily struggles such as body image, self-esteem, school stressors, bullying, and troubled relationships are just a few of the issues today’s youth must endure.  Growing up ISN’T easy. LaCandian is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and lack of negative thinking by sponsoring, hosting, and participating in events and activities that promote the empowerment of young girls. Our girls need a solid foundation on which to build positive attitudes and healthy lifestyles.

  • Pretty, Powerful, Purposed

LaCandian is the founder of Pretty, Powerful, & Purposed, a mentoring and empowerment

program established to inspire, invest, and impact the lives of young girls.

Being PRETTY: teaches girls to embrace not only their outer beauty but to captivate their inner

beauty with self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-love.

Being POWERFUL: helps develop and discover their strengths, master their actions and

thoughts, overcome their fears and live beyond limitations.

Being PURPOSED: aids them to reach beyond their dreams, be eager to fulfill their passion, and

desires to make a difference in today’s society.

“Don’t Be The Pretty Girl With No Purpose”

  • Fearless & Free

Growing up has never been easy, and one of the most traumatic things Spencer says she can still remember was being teased and bullied. Today bullying is a major epidemic within the school system. This lead Spencer to launch the “Fearless & Free” Anti-Bullying Campaign. The campaign is designed to prevent bullying, support girls who have been bullied, and foster bullying awareness. The activities will help girls to be assertive without being aggressive, show acts of kindness, and

maintain self-control.

“Find the courage to be who are, not who someone else wish you were”

  • SMART Girls

LaCandian is a faithful volunteer and facilitator for SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Girls at the Boys and Girls Club of Bryant. SMART Girls is a national program

designed to offer a safe environment where girls can be authentic, honest, and candid about the

many challenges they face. Spencer adds her own twist, the “Fearless & Free Zone”, an

atmosphere which allows the girls to laugh, learn, and lead altogether. Giving the girls an

opportunity to select the topic discussion, she creates a fun-filled, energetic, and meaningful

activity that correlates with each topic. Spencer believes this program will result in young

women of good character, healthy self-concept, and limitless possibilities.

Education

Education:

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can change the world”—Nelson Mandela.

Growing up in a single parent home and small town with limited jobs and resources, Spencer had the ambition to further her education after high school. Experiencing the high cost of tuition and living expenses with little to no assistance in undergraduate school or pharmacy school, Spencer felt the need to give back.

In 2017, LaCandian established the “Dr. LaCandian Spencer Scholarship Award”. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving female high school senior enrolled in a higher institution of learning. LaCandian aspires to one day offer a full paid tuition scholarship.
